One gaping hole which was left from my last visit to the R.E.C village was to observe one of our teacher trainees teaching his grade 8 English class and this was an oversight that I was keen to rectify.

The new year means back to work. After my weekend visit to the village which is home to the two talented teachers I was due to collect Van for her annual visit to Myanmar.
Observing other teacher’s lessons has been a neglected area of my teaching career. Sure, I observed a few lessons during my teacher training and then later, when I was in charge of teacher training I graded each attempt at a 45 minute lesson.
One of the students learning English showed great potential as a teacher during the Yangon teaching training, and I was keen to watch him in his natural environment.
After my holiday I arrived in Sittwe and although tired from traveling I had the pleasure of attending a CEAL open mic night. I met a really excited student who sang in English especially for me; unfortunately he was so excited that he forgot some of the words!
In the article, "Inspired by Christians, Myanmar Buddhists provide model education," from DPA International:

On my second day at R.E.C, my two students and I had a productive 3 hour meeting in which we discussed the merits of having bi-weekly meetings with the full complement of teaching staff.
The head monk of R.E.C wanted us to visit his native village and meet all of their very big family! My other student had a slight cold coming, but the monk was determined that we would undertake the 5 hour boat journey and like it! At 5 am I grabbed my scant belonging, had some breakfast, and we set off in the boat.
